If you have been thinking about buying rum recently and you are not sure which one to choose we want to guide you on a journey through the Caribbean. Unfortunately it is not a real journey but still you will learn a lot about different types of rum and their paradisiacal home countries.

At first you have to know that the Caribbean consists of countries with a big tradition in rum, as Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic as well as Columbia, Venezuela, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

For me it is impossible to talk about the best cocktails and not to mention the syrup, but not anyone in general but Monin syrups in particular, because they work the essence of flavor like no other and, moreover, this year they celebrate one hundred years enriching and improving all cocktails that have them in their recipes.

After my best friend came back from his revealing trip to Brazil Kahlúa was always present in our celebrations. Kahlúa and rum, to prepare the delicious Kalhúa Mambo, with tequila, for Kahlua Rita or vodka, for that provocative Kahlua Black Russian. However, when we were already fully immersed in the exciting world of amateur mixology, we decided to change drink as the kahlua did not respond too well to mix with syrups.

Considered the most popular among the drinks made with rum, the Mai Tai is a cocktail of high alcohol content which also contains curaçao and lime juice. It was invented in the United States, but is closely linked to the Tiki or Polynesian culture because of its exotic taste and fresh appearance.

The story goes that this cocktail was created in the Trader Vic bar in California by the barman Victor J. Begeron in 1944, who entertained some friends who were visiting him from Tahiti. Testing it, one would have exclaimed “maitai roa” ("very good") and it owes its name to that famous speech. 

The Caribbean is one of the most paradisiacal areas of the world, there is no doubt, but it also has a reputation for having the best rum in the world, a fact that would have no discussion. The Caribbean is made up of countries with a long tradition of rum, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Cuba and the Dominican Republic first order and in a second order, Colombia, Venezuela, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica without forgetting Mexico and Panama, but on a smaller scale.

We begin our tour of Caribbean rums by Jamaica, the country of reggae and Rastafarian philosophy have as between the most sold and emblematic rums of the Caribbean and the world, as Appleton.

No one can doubt that the Caribbean rums are the worlds most famous either for their high quality or its long tradition. But we cannot deny that there are a lot of rum around the world who may not have the same tradition, but their quality has won an important place in the world of rum.
